Unit 4- Regression & Correlation

Unit 4 Test Review Key

Lesson 1 HW Answers
1. positive, weak, 0.527. Answers will vary

2a. Scatterplot
b. close to zero, correlation is not strong. Data is spread out and not clearly increasing or decreasing
e. r=-.214, Malissa and Matt have a very weak negative correlation. It is hard to conclude anything since this value is so close to 0. You could say that they disagree on some activities.

4a. JoJo will like it also since their correlation is strong and positive.
b. We dont know how Fallyn feels about horror movies since their correlation is so close to zero.
c. Kim will not like it since they have a strong negative correlation.

5a. linear, negative, moderate to weak, does not vary in strength, a couple outliers, teen deaths decrease as reading proficiency increases
b. 21% proficient. Yes, Mississippi fits the rest of the points pattern.
c. (73/100000)(986000)=720 deaths.

Lesson 2 HW Answers
1a. 301.3 Interpretation: For each additional year, the number of hippos will increase by about 301.
b. Largest Positive Residual: 1977 Estimated Residual: Answers will vary  Residual: 707.9
Largest Negative Residual: 1975 Estimated Residual: Answers will vary  Residual: -1,494.5
c. 16,189.8

2a. 1975
b. y-only outlier
Slope: increase       Intercept: Decrease           r: Increase(Get Stronger Postive)

3a. Moderately Strong Positive
b. r=0.8
c. Grape Nuts       slope will decrease if Grape Nuts are removed
y=.0375x-2.784    For every additional calorie(x) the fiber(y) will increase by .0375 grams.
r=.808    There is a strong correlation between the calories and fiber in cereal.

4. r=0.92 Strong Positive       r=0.42   Weak Positive        r=-0.9  Strong Negative

5. The graph does look more curved, so a line may not be the best fit for the data.  However, it could go either way.
Estimation: 77.301lbs
